Publish in multiple languages
You can publish a document in other languages (translations) in addition to its source language. This page explains how to choose the source language, add languages to translate into, enter translations, and how they appear on the public site.
Available languages are Japanese (日本語), English and Spanish (Español).
Choose the source language
Choose the source language under "Source language" on the "Create document" screen when you create a document. The language for your organization's country is preselected (Japanese for Japan, Spanish for Spanish-speaking countries, English for other countries).
Add a language to translate into
- Open the document's editor.
- In the "Document" tab on the right, open "Languages".
- Under "Add translation", choose a language and click "Add".
Added languages appear under "Translation languages". Removing a language does not delete the translations you entered; add it again and they are ready to use.
Enter translations
- Under "Editing language" at the top of the editor, switch to the language to translate into.
- Click the block you want to translate, and an input field appears below it. Enter the translation while looking at the source text.
- Press Enter to confirm (Shift + Enter for a line break). Translations you enter are saved automatically.
- You can enter a translation for the page title in the same way.
- Images can be replaced with images for this language ("Replace with an image for this language"). Videos can have a different URL for each language.
- Blocks without a translation are shown in the source language.
Translate document settings
With the translation language selected, you can enter translations for the following items in the right panel.
- Document title
- Cover image (can be replaced with an image for this language)
- Header logo ("Logo" in the header settings; a logo containing text can be replaced with an image for this language)
- Page description
- AI chat settings (service name, service description, greeting)
- Header and footer links (labels and destinations)
For links to pages whose label you have not translated, the translated title of the linked page is shown. If no image is set for the language, the source cover image and logo are shown. The favicon is shared across all languages.
Check or delete translations
- Use "Preview" to check how it will look when published. Switch languages with "Language" at the top of the preview.
- To delete a page's translation, click the trash can button ("Delete the (language) translation"). Once deleted, the page is shown in the source language.
How translations appear on the public site
Translations take effect on the public site when you publish the document.
- The source is shown at a URL without a language, such as https://{subdomain}.monjiro.io/. Translations are shown at per-language URLs, such as https://{subdomain}.monjiro.io/en/ (the same applies to custom domains).
- Readers who open a URL without a language see pages in their browser's language if a translation exists. Readers who open a URL with a language see that language.
- Pages without a translation show the source and let readers know that no translation is available yet.
- The AI chat answers based on the content in the language the reader is viewing.
Translate with MCP
From AI tools connected through MCP integration, you can check which pages need translation and enter translations. Translations are saved to the working content, so review them before publishing.
